AI technology has grown exponentially over the past few years, and one of the most impressive advancements is the development of natural language processing (NLP) models.
NLP is an invaluable tool for freelance writers, bloggers, and marketers, allowing them to create unique and engaging content quickly and efficiently.
ChatGPT is one of the most advanced NLP tools available with lots of potential use cases. However, if you’ve been tinkering with the tool for a while now, you might have wondered if there are some viable ChatGPT alternatives.
If that’s you then read on…
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a natural language processing (NLP) model developed by OpenAI based on GPT-3 and is specifically designed for generating content in a conversational style. It is trained on large datasets and can generate natural-sounding conversations with minimal input from the user.
How does ChatGPT work?
ChatGPT works by taking in a user’s input and then generating a response based on the context of the conversation.
It uses a combination of natural language processing and machine learning algorithms to generate responses that are both accurate and natural-sounding.
Unlike GPT-3, this model is designed to remember conversations within a text and uses this knowledge to continue generating relevant content down the chat without wandering off.
Why ChatGPT alternatives?
While ChatGPT in itself is a super powerful tool, you may have a preference for things like:
- Specific use cases
- More advanced and accurate language models
- Cleaner user interface
- All in one platform that includes copywriting frameworks, chatGPT tool, and content types workflows
- Specific built-in features
- Ability to use the chat feature within a robust document editor.
You may also want to ensure that your content generation tools are under one platform. For instance, if you have a subscription to Jasper, then you may want to use Jasper Chat instead.
Some alternatives may be more cost-effective or easier to use than ChatGPT.
ChatGPT Alternatives — Built on Top of OpenAI Models
These ChatGPT alternatives aren’t really alternatives per se, but since they have been improved differently, you may find that they are overall better or at least faster than the original model.
1) Jasper Chat
Jasper Chat is a recently introduced feature by Jasper AI that is built on top of ChatGPT. It is designed to make it easier for businesses to create natural-sounding conversations with minimal input from the user.
It has a few features that make it a great choice for businesses:
- Easy-to-use interface,
- Remembering earlier conversations in the thread gives it the context it needs to continue generating relevant content.
- Easily send generated content to the Jasper Document editor for further improvisation.
This tool slightly differs from ChatGPT, since it has been developed specifically for business use cases, including blog posts, marketing, sales, etc.
Jasper Chat Pricing
Jasper Chat, like ChatGPT, is kinda free at the moment, while in beta. I say kinda because Jasper Chat is not a standalone product, you need to have a valid Jasper BossMode subscription to unlock the tool.
If you have the BossMode, you can use the tool completely for free, as the outputs you generate via the Chat do not use your AI credits.
2) Chatsonic
Chatsonic is an advanced AI chatbot by Writesonic that is a great alternative to ChatGPT. It has the ability to crawl the latest information from Google and generate content including real-time topics. Some of its features include:
- Ability to use data from Google to generate content on real-time topics.
- Customize personas to tailor generated content to your industry.
- Includes AI artwork to make your post more appealing when you share it on social media.
- Ability to take voice commands to save time and boost productivity.
- Create personalized conversations and suggest topics based on user preferences.
Another cool feature you will like about the interface is that it has a few options that allow you to copy to decide what to do with the generated answers.
For instance, you can:
- Copy to clipboard.
- Open it in the sone editor
- Edit it directly
- Download it or
- Have the AI read it out loud.

3) MoonBeam Chat
I recently discovered MoonBeam, and am literally falling in love with this free and quite affordable AI content generator. Just like Jasper AI, MoonBeam has launched a ChatGPT-powered chat tool for conversational content generation.
You can also expect to benefit from the features of ChatGPT, including the thread lookback. The AI knows what it has created, and uses it to inform the next generations, regardless of whether it’s your 2nd question in the chat or the 100th.
Limitations:
- No chat histories
- No easy way to start a new thread, besides reloading the chat dashboard page
One thing that sets MoonBeam apart, is that it has built a related feature called ask Luka, (Luka is the name that MoonBeam chose to call its AI assistant.) This is key since you can now leverage the ChatGPT-powered tool to answer questions on the side of your long-form document editor.
MoonBeam Pricing:
- Free plan: Upto 30,000 words for free
- Pro plan $15/month: Unlimited words
- Team plan — $30/month/seat: Unlimited words generation and exclusive features such as real-time doc editing
ChatGPT Alternatives Based on Language Models
There are also totally different language models that do not use OpenAI’s tools, and they have been developed from scratch. These include:
4) Chinchilla
Chinchilla is a natural language processing (NLP) model developed by the Deepmind team. It is trained on over 70 billion parameters on over 400 language models, making it one of the most powerful NLP models available.
It is designed to generate human-like conversations with minimal input from the user.
Chinchilla is a great alternative to ChatGPT for those looking for a more efficient and accurate NLP model. It outperforms other Natural Language Generation models, including Gopher, GPT-3, and even Megatron-Turing.
5) Megatron Turing NLG
Megatron Turing NLG is a joint effort between Microsoft and NVIDIA to advance the state of the art in AI for natural language generation.
It is the successor to Turing NLG 17B and Megatron-LM, with 3x the number of parameters compared to the existing largest model of this type. It is the largest and most powerful monolithic transformer language model trained to date, with 530 billion parameters.
Megatron Turing NLG is an ideal alternative to ChatGPT since it can produce high-quality, natural language responses to user queries with unmatched accuracy in a broad set of natural language tasks such as completion prediction, reading comprehension, commonsense reasoning, natural language inferences, and word sense disambiguation.
6) LaMDA
LaMDA, short for Language Model for Dialogue Applications, is Google’s system for building chatbots based on its most advanced large language model.
LaMDA is pre-trained using 1.56 Trillion words of publicly accessible dialogue data and web documents. It has up to 137B parameters and is able to be fine-tuned using three metrics: Safety, Quality, and Groundedness.
LaMDA’s responses are evaluated on a series of questions against these metrics by other human raters. It is praised for its ability to be called “sentient” even by its engineer.
7) Bloom
Bloom is an open-source large language model, released by EleutherAI, BigScience, and HuggingFace.
It is powered by 1.5 terabytes of text and has 176 billion parameters with 70 layers and multi-head attention
It is an ideal alternative to ChatGPT, as it is also a transformer-based model.
Bloom has an ethical charter that is focused on inclusivity, diversity, reproducibility, openness, and responsibility.
It is currently available through HuggingFace, with a smaller and less hardware-intensive version, as well as a server-distributed version, planned for the future.
What is the best ChatGPT Alternative?
Chatsonic is the best of the five ChatGPT alternatives for a few reasons:
- It is integrated with Google Search, giving it access to the latest information.
- It can create digital images with AI, as well as respond to voice commands.
- It is part of the Writesonic suite of products, which are already highly used by thousands of marketing teams, agencies, and online freelancers.
- Has a free trial and its pricing plans are quite affordable, starting from $12.67 per month (Paid annually)
