Today, there are hundreds of categories that many blogs can be grouped into, but first, we need to define these groups in terms of three main criteria:
- Topics/ Area of focus.
- Sub niches
When categorized in terms of goals, then there are 5 main blog categories:
- Personal blogs
- Business/Corporate blogs
- News blogs
- Affiliate / Review blogs
- Niche blogs
- Tutorial blogs
Think of the above categorizations as the broader groups under which blogs may be defined. For instance, if a blog exists to majorly cover industry news, regardless of the topic, it is regarded as a news blog. Likewise, blogs that exist to promote a brand or a business, are corporate blogs.
However, the main criterion for categorizing blogs is the topic covered.
Blog Categories List
Most blogs can fit into any of the following blog categories:
- Food and Recipe
- Love and Relationships
- Alternative topics
- Green blogs
- Internet services
- Sports and Gaming
Mainstream and Alternative Niches
Some of the topics above, despite having sub-niches, may be further categorized as mainstream, or alternative. For instance, we have traditional health topics and alternative health topics.
Chances are you will opt for the mainstream topics as they are popular, but if you are interested specifically in alternative categories, then I recommend checking out my ultimate guide to alternative niches.
Now if we go a step further, then we can have blog categories based on sub-niches, and since each blog category above (topics), can have hundreds of sub-niches, I can’t list them all here.
You can, however, explore the sub-categories by visiting the individual niches on this page.
Examples of categories based on sub-niches of Hobbies include:
- Music blogs
